Land Use: Cause and Effect in Providence
Exploring Providence’s Terrain and Natural Resources

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about land use? Dirt? Buildings? Trees? Well our group land use, deals with problems like tree coverage which deals with how many trees are in a specific neighborhood.  Flooding zones and flooding evacuations, which brings up questions like, do we have a clear enough flood evacuation plan? Other problems are LNG blast which would be very catastrophic for Providence if it blew up and crimes and parks.  All our maps are very different from each other and at the same time very similar in some ways.

Argenis - Which neighborhoods have more tree coverage than others? map

Audrey -
What is the most common type of crime in parks? map

Edgar - Storm Surge modeling around area of proposed Sasaki Plan. Is the Sasaki Plan a good land use? map

Karen - Which neighborhoods have the least tree coverage? Where do we need more trees? map

Kathy- What industrial properties are affected by flooding of Woonasquatucket River? map

Nadia - Modeling the economic impact of a LNG disaster in Washington Park map

Natalia - Economic impact of a major flooding in Washington Park map

Patricia - What schools are in danger of flooding? map

Yazmely y Yanderyn - Creating an evacuation plan for major flooding or LNG disaster in Washington Park. map

Yazmely - Proposal for redevelopment of former I-195 land: People's Town! map

Final / Map Ideas:

Make a map of tree coverage in Providence. Make a plan for where we need more trees.

Where are the flood zones in Providence?  What houses are in danger?  Propose where you think houses and businesses should be located if they take into account the flood zones.

Look at zoning around Providence's waterfront.  How would you change the zoning?   What would you put there?

Look at aerial photos of Providence before the river was uncovered.  Make a map of how you would have rerouted the water.
